About the Practice

Bill Kamenjarin has been motivated since his youth by a passion for justice, coupled with a desire and ability to solve problems. He credits a wide range of individuals with his desire to become an attorney and serve the public, including Abraham Lincoln, Clarence Darrow, and Atticus Finch from the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. His uncle, a state bar president who worked on several significant right-to-counsel cases before the United States Supreme Court, was also a major influence.

Bill grew up in Chicago and graduated from Duke University with honors. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University, where he served on the school's Law Review, edited the American Bar Association's award- winning paper, and worked as a research assistant for a professor.

During his decades of varied litigation and transactional experience, Bill has represented both plaintiffs and defendants. Working on both sides of varied legal disputes has given him an important and impartial perspective that is particularly useful in resolving legal disputes and trying cases.

Bill Kamenjarin practices business and general tort litigation, primarily handling business disputes, labor and employment, real estate and personal injury. He has a Martindale Hubbell rating for ethics and legal ability.

In Bill's first jury trial, assigned to him on the eve of trial, he persuaded a unanimous jury to award his client punitive damages. That case was unanimously affirmed on appeal.

In a later breach of contract case, Bill won the case on a plaintiff's summary judgment motion, before the other party had even conducted any discovery. That case was also affirmed on appeal, in a published opinion.

Bill maintains an active mediation and civil law practice. In addition to his private mediation practice, he also serves on the Superior Court Mediation Panel, the Superior Court Arbitration Panel, and the Superior Court Settlement Panel.

He writes and lectures regularly on the law, and has chaired the Alternative Dispute Resolution Mandatory Continuing Legal Education section of the bar for many years.

He is a past president of the North County Bar Association, and served several terms on the Board of Directors. His long-term editorship of the North County Lawyer magazine brought that publication into a more sophisticated and accessible form and he continues to contribute to the magazine.

Bill has been a founding member, master, and officer of the Lopardo Chapter of the American Inns of Court. He has helped shape and expand that chapter. The mission of the American Inns of Court is to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility, and legal skills.

Bill and his wife have been actively involved in local libraries. While he served on and chaired the Carlsbad City Library Board of Trustees, the city built and opened two new major libraries, including the Library Learning Center which promotes education and literacy for all.

His personal interests include biography and historical nonfiction, tropical and subtropical gardening, especially bromeliads and fuchsias, the ocean, collecting political campaign memorabilia and campaign buttons, and the writing of his wife, Taffy Cannon, author of fourteen published novels. A former music critic with an extensive music collection, Bill also enjoys early rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and country-western music.

Bill brings passion, enthusiasm and experience to the practice of law and solving problems. He is dedicated to representing the best interests of his clients, improving the legal profession, and serving the greater community.
